Roderick: I am calm and confident, and I know that the dentist office can be one of the least favorite places for people to go. I do my best to make sure that my patients have as pleasurable experience as possible, and I provide an atmosphere that promotes comfort and ease.

Patch: At what moment did you decide to open a business?

Roderick: When I finished dental school, I wanted to have my own practice where I could have control of the quality of dentistry that every patient received.

Patch: What inspired you?

Roderick: I must have had a crush on my childhood dentist. I wanted to do what he was doing.

Patch: Describe the biggest challenge of owning a business in the Town of Los Gatos?

Roderick: I think it is a challenge to own a business in any town. They don’t teach any business classes in dental school, so you have to learn as you go. After 16 years, I am still learning.

Patch: Describe the best thing about owning a business in the town of Los Gatos?

Roderick: There is a true sense of community in Los Gatos, where ideas and thoughts are shared freely. Word-of-mouth referrals are important to business owners, and Los Gatos is small enough that most people share their good experiences with each other.

Patch: What is one thing you would never change about your business?

Roderick: I would never change my commitment to quality health care and education for my patients. I will always have a skilled staff to make sure our patients are comfortable with each visit.

Patch: What is your business' greatest asset?

Roderick: The quality of our patients’ visits. We have a “no-wait” policy at Smile Center of Los Gatos, and our waiting room really isn’t for waiting, it’s for greeting the patients as they come in, and getting them checked in.

Patch: What is your favorite spot in town?

Roderick: I really enjoy spending time on the Los Gatos trail. It is a great place for a hike, and it seems like I always bump into someone I know.

Patch: What's one thing the community should know about you?

Roderick: I have a Bracco Italiano dog named Rocco, and eight backyard chickens. There are always farm fresh eggs available for my patients after their appointment.
