Featured Blog: The Church of Hate to Picket Steve Jobs' Funeral

The Westboro Baptist Church is at it again.

Why is it that some people can't leave well-enough alone? Why anyone who claims to be Christian could spew hate is beyond most of us. But the Westboro Baptist Church seems to find ways to stoop to new lows.

The leader of the church, Margie Phelps, has declared her group intends to picket the funeral of Steve Jobs as way of "condemning him for teaching sin to others," according to The Huffington Post. The message is even more bizarre considering that she sent the message via Twitter over her iPhone.

So first they tried to grab headlines by picketing the funerals of fallen soldiers. But that became tough when a veteran's group started corralling them, running interference for the funeral goers. Now they want to picket Jobs' funeral.

I say, send out invites to the real funeral, put public notices out that the funeral will be held at another funeral home. Protesters show up at the wrong funeral home with no time to find the right one. They waste all that money and time. If everyone did that to them, they would eventually stop.

But what I don't get is that they claim to be Christian, but follow a doctrine of hate. Christ wasn't about hatred and fear. These guys remind me of Al-Qaeda or any one of the many Muslim splinter groups that use suicide bombings to make their point. How could one possibly pervert the teachings of Christ, a healer and a teacher, into the crap that spews forth from their mouths?

For me, Jobs was a brilliant man who revolutionized the computer industry and every industry that utilizes Apple products. A genius and a free thinker, he personified American industrial finesse and innovation. People like Jobs only come around once in a while. To have his memory stained by the likes of these morons is like Hitler bad mouthing Gandhi. Sure, the words are there, but considering the source, the comments mean little.
