Blog: The Cats is Back!

The Cats Restaurant is set to tentatively open Dec. 10. Go check it out!

Long, long ago, in a galaxy far far away, I knew not the pleasure and enjoyment which went along with eating at the Cats Restaurant, where the food was good and the service was better.

My friend suggested we go there one evening, and as I am a person who loves good food and finding new places to get it, we traveled down Highway 17, just past Los Gatos, and nestled into this little indentation in the cliff. We discovered a low-key building. I was expecting the typical Denny's cafe, but what I found was this very homey and cozy setting with great cuisine and ambiance.

Well, I went back only a couple of times since then and each time was a delightful experience.

But then I moved out of the area for a while and returned, the Cats was closed. I never found out why, just closed. So you can imagine my contentment upon hearing the news that the Cats would be re-opening Dec. 10. I was, of course, thrilled.

Hopefully, the restaurant hasn't changed much. Now I know almost nothing about the circumstances of its resurrection, but I'm glad it's returning and owners Mark Edwards and David Peterson seem like a couple of great guys, just trying to make a decent living by serving great-tasting food to locals.

Many times, when a restaurant closes, it's because either the service is terrible, the food sucks or it's in a really bad location. Its hole in the wall location, much to my surprise, seems to be a great spot for the Cats.

And, I repeat, the food and service were excellent, so I haven't a clue as to why it closed. I do hope they've done something about the access to the restaurant. Getting in and out was always a bit challenging.

So coming Dec. 10, everyone make plans to visit the Cats, say howdy and welcome back. This is one of Los Gatos' best known landmarks and we need to ensure that it stays here.
