Favorite Los Gatos Guitar Teacher Releases First Album

Los Gatos native and guitar school owner Chris Bryant and his band, Ascendant, will perform their first cd entitled “Source Transmission” live at the Simone Beckett Gallery on Friday -- May 2 -- at 7:30.

Bryant is a graduate of Los Gatos High School and has been a musician since the age of nine -- first influenced by the heavy metal cassette tapes he bought at The Wherehouse many years ago.

While at Los Gatos High, he played the guitar and joined bands. After going to college, Bryant started his own local business, teaching guitar lessons. In 2009, he founded Chris Bryant Guitar School located on Santa Cruz Avenue in Los Gatos which he co-owns with his wife, Jeanne Yee Bryant.

Bryant teaches 60 to 80 students per week using a straightforward chord-based approach and specializing in a “rock guitar experience.”

After experimenting with many genres of music and a solo career, Bryant now focuses on an ambient electronic sound, playing with a partner.

Bryant describes this type of music as having pulsing rhythms and deep ambient textures from synthesizers, highlighting the beauty of modern music technology.

The soon to be released CD, “Source Transmission”, pairs Bryant with ambient music producer and master engineer Don Tyler from Los Angeles.

Simone Beckett Gallery is located at 120 West Main St. in Los Gatos. The event is free and open to the public.
