Movie Review: Ice Age: Continental Drift

I give the film a solid 3 out of 5 stars ... find out why!

The fourth installment of the Ice Age film series, Ice Age: Continental Drift, debuted on Friday, July 13. The superstitious need not worry; Ice Age skyrocketed to the top of this weekend’s box office chart, beating out Ted and The Amazing Spiderman with a whopping $46,629,259.

Ice Age boasts a star studded cast; big names like Aubrey Graham (Drake), Queen Latifah, Jennifer Lopez, Heather Morris, Wanda Sykes, and Keke Palmer likely helped draw in the crowds.

The film follows the original trio: Manny the mammoth (Ray Ramano), Sid the sloth (John Leuizamo), and Diego the sabercat (Denis Leary), as they traverse a newly divided continent, getting involved in all sorts of humorous shenanigans. Though it received relatively poor reviews across the board, I personally found this Ice Age installment to be very well done.

The film manages to get many life lessons across while maintaining a light-hearted atmosphere. Additionally, the material was fresh and the plot was interesting (something that most films with numerous sequels fail to do). The film’s targeted audience may be young children, however, I’m seventeen years old and I found the film to be hilarious. It may not be oscar worthy, but if you’re in the mood for a good laugh, I highly recommend seeing Ice Age: Continental Drift.
