Ease on Down And See The Wiz!

Los Gatos Youth Theatre thespians perform fun, funked-up rendition of The Wiz.

Nearly 60 Los Gatos Youth Theatre performers aged 12-15 have been rehearsing for The Wiz since May and their hard work payed off with an amazing opening weekend.

A modern, funked-up version of the Wizard of Oz, this show begins in a school setting with the Bieber wannabes and popular girls dissing poor Dorothy.

In the first of many creatively staged scenes, Dorothy finds herself magically transported via tornado, in this case undulating dancers clad in orange-y purple halter dresses, and two guys in black who swoop in and spin Dorothy, hoist her high into the air as clouds projected onto a scrim wiz past.

In keeping with the school setting, Dorothy lands in a frat house/soriety row Munchkin Land. With the help of Addaperle, a kooky Southern belle good witch with subpar magic skills and lots of heart, Dorothy sets off to see the Wizard of Oz. Along the way of course, she meets the Scarecrow, a tap-dancing Tin Man and a Cowardly Lion with serious mommy issues.

Set to soulful music and featuring songs like "Ease on Down the Road," The Wiz originated on Broadway and was later made into an Oscar-nominated 1978 musical film starring Michael Jackson and Diana Ross, is a fun and funky delight for audiences of all ages.
