VIDEO: The Popularity of the Kennedy-Limekiln Trail Part 2

Hollywood Actress Wendy Carter gives us an introduction to the Kennedy-Limekiln Area.

Hollywood Actress Wendy Carter, now living in Los Gatos, explains the popular Kennedy/Limekiln Trail loop, which covers more than 14 miles and includes nearly 2,000 feet in elevation gain.

The Kennedy Limekiln area is one of the most frequented of four distinct sectors of the Sierra Azul Open Space Preserve, overlooking the town of Los Gatos and the South Bay. The preserve encompasses more than 18,300 acres of mostly rugged and steep terrain.

The trail is accessible from Kennedy Road in Los Gatos, about 1.5 miles west of its intersection with Shannon Road. There's limited parking here.

The 3,152-acre area includes 15 miles of trails, giving hikers, bicyclists and equestrians excellent strenuous loop trails, according to the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District.

For a shorter but still energetic hike or ride, outdoor enthusiasts recommend the five-mile Priest Rock Trail, with an 800-foot elevation gain. Leashed dogs are allowed only on the trails in the Kennedy-Limekiln Area, the district suggests.
