Plein Air in Los Gatos This Weekend

Plein Air art show ongoing all week, but culminates Saturday in the plaza; a reception with abstract artists at the museum, an emergency preparedness training class and the yearly celebration at Sunset Magazine are our suggestions to Get Out this weekend.

When/Where: 6:30-10 p.m. Friday, , 50 University Ave.

Why Go: En plein air is a French expression for in the open air and is often used to talk about the act of painting outdoors. Well, that's what's happening here this weekend. This is the private reception for the artists participating in the Plein Air show ongoing Wednesday to Saturday and your chance to mix and mingle with them.  Enjoy wine, music and gourmet appetizers while you meet the artists and see their work. You even have an inside track to see their favorite paintings and perhaps buy one.

When/When: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Los Gatos Town Plaza, West Main Street and North Santa Cruz Avenue.

Why Go: This is the day when it all comes together. Plein air artists have been painting for the past three days. Now you and the artists can view the framed paintings and see what's been done all week. A silent auction is ongoing all afternoon so you can bid on your favorite work.  The exhibit is juried and an awards presentation will take place at the end of the day. And if the painting isn't enough, there will be live music and wine from local wineries.

Pricing: Admission is free

When/Where: 9 a.m. and 12 p.m., Saturday, , 14855 Oka Rd.

Why Go: Be prepared and when you take this class you will know how to handle an emergency. We are not immune from the storms and the after-effects of bad weather that have plagued other parts of the country; nor do we ever know when a natural disaster might hit. This class will give you some ideas of what to do to be safe.

Pricing; Free
