At The Cats they received the artists, writers and thinkers of their time, wrote poetry, and maintained a home where freedom of expression was valued above all else.

Sara Bard Field (1882-1974) was a poet and suffragist.  She believed in social justice, and spent months every summer traveling the country getting the word out about suffrage. In her later years, Sara focused on writing poetry, and produced three books: The Pale Woman in 1929, Barrabas in 1932, and The Darkling Plain in 1936.

In the spirit of Sara Bard Field, Goss will first read some of Sara’s poems from The Darkling Plain, followed by some of her own work that deals with social justice.

Members of the audience will be invited to read poems written in the spirit of social justice at an open microphone.

Goss is the host of Word to Word, a show about poetry.

She is the author of Wild Place (Finishing Line Press 2012) and Vibrant Words: Ideas and Inspirations for Poets (PushPen Press 2014).
