Donations of new clothing, shoes, books and toys, or cash, to help three children rescued from squalid and abusive conditions in Monterey County are being accepted by the Monterey County Association of Families Caring for Children.

Authorities removed a girl and two boys from a home on Russell Road near Salinas earlier this month. The children were abused and starving, and the girl had been chained to the floor, according to Monterey County sheriff's officials.

Police arrested the home's residents, Eraca Craig, 31, and Christian Deanda, 44, on child abuse charges, sheriff's officials said.

According to news reports, the children are an 8-year-old girl and two boys, ages 5 and 3.

People who want to help the county's foster children can send financial donations to MCAFCC, P.O. Box 2283, Salinas, CA, 93902.

Checks should be made out to MCAFCC. Donors can earmark their donations to be used for the Russell Road victims by writing a note on the check.

Interested donors should call (831) 770-7039.
