New Homeowner 'Boot Camp' Offered in Santa Clara County

Housing Trust Silicon Valley hosts free workshop April 19 featuring tax, financial and home-maintenance info for first-time home buyers.

Once the last official documents are signed and keys are in hand, new homeowners face how to protect their finances and keep their new home in order, says Housing Trust Silicon Valley.

One of the largest housing trusts in the country, Housing Trust Silicon is  is presenting a free “Homeowners Mini Boot Camp” on April 19 at the Willow Glen Community Center from 9 a.m. to noon in San Jose.

The session is free to new homeowners in Santa Clara County, but seating is limited. To RSVP, email: jeanette@housingtrustsv.org.

“Becoming a homeowner is one of the most important days in a person’s life, and there are a lot of questions that come with that,” said Kevin Zwick, CEO of HTSV.
“We want residents of Santa Clara County to know that we are a resource for them in all stages of the process."

HTSV representatives will answer questions related to mortgage payments, property taxes and homeowners’ insurance, neighborhood watch and other programs.

SurePath Financial Solutions, a nonprofit organization, will address budgeting, emergency funds, maintaining credit and financial scams.

And Hassett Ace Hardware representatives will give maintenance tips, and attendees will receive Hassett Ace gift cards.

“We provide free demos of how to install a home smoke detector and how to do a simple repair and replacement of washers for your lavatory faucet because these typically perplex people,” said Paul Vezinaw of Hassett Ace.

Willow Glen Community Center is at 2175 Lincoln Ave. in San Jose.
