The Applied Materials Silicon Valley Turkey Trot takes place today, Thursday, Nov. 22 at corner of Santa Clara and Market streets in downtown San Jose. Benefits Second Harvest Food Bank, The Housing Trust, and Children’s Health Initiative of Santa Clara County. 10K wheelchair begins at 7:45 a.m., 10K run at 7:50 a.m. and 5K run/walk at 8:30 a.m. Be at the starting line 30 to 40 minutes early. Remember that you need to have enough time to park and make it to the starting line with 25,000 other runners! No dogs, bikes, roller blades, scooters, skateboards allowed on the course. Shop local on Black Friday, Nov. 23 in Los Gatos' quaint walkable downtown central business district along Santa Cruz Avenue, from Main Street to beyond Los Gatos-Saratoga Road. Most businesses open at around 9 a.m. and close between 5 and 6 p.m. with big chain stores staying open later until about 8 p.m. Chain stores include Banana Republic, Talbots, Anthropologie, Apple store, BeneFit, Williams Sonoma, Sur La Table, NapaStyle and Town of Los Gatos, is located behind Purrsnickety and Bow Wowzer. Signs will be posted leading shoppers to the location. Service continues through Christmas Eve. Tipping is optional.

The Los Gatos High School varsity football team. a.k.a. the Wildcats, the No. 2 seed in the Central Coast Section Division II playoffs, face Wilcox High School Chargers at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23 at Helm Field, 20 High School Court. 

FANTASY OF LIGHTS

The 14th annual Fantasy of Lights begins 6-10 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23 through Dec. 31 at Vasona Lake County Park, 333 Blossom Hill Rd. in Los Gatos. The event is a 1.5-mile drive-through of holiday lights and entertainment, which includes mostly animated, larger-than-life displays, and the special sounds of holiday music piped through car radios. $10 per vehicle (up to 9 guests) Friday, Nov. 23 through Thursday, Dec. 6 only; $15 per vehicle after Dec. 6; $25 per vehicle 10-25 guests (no discounts) and $50 commercial and school buses (no discounts). 'CATS RESTAURANT 'SINGING FOR SUPERSTORM SANDY'

The Cats Restaurant and Tavern, 17533 Santa Cruz Highway, presents “Singing for Superstorm Sandy” benefit concert 3-6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 25 featuring local musicians. Joe Ferrara performs his regular Sunday evening program 6-9 p.m. Cash donations will be collected, but admission is free. Make checks payable to American Red Cross. Details: 408-354-4020.

SHAPED BY WATER

"Shaped by Water: Past, Present & Future" is a free traveling exhibition created by the Los Altos History Museum in 2011. The History Museum of Los Gatos, 75 Church St., hosts the exhibition 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday until Dec. 31. Inspires a deep connection to this precious and essential resource through indoor and outdoor exhibits that incorporate artifacts, stories, photographs, maps and artwork by San Francisco Bay Area–based artists. The media exhibition Water, Water Everywhere: Paean to a Vanishing Resource, a film exploration of water issues, will also be featured throughout the exhibition. Details: 408-395-7386.
