Los Gatos Weekend Planner: Jan. 17-20

From music auditions for teens to concerts, there's plenty to do in town for a fun weekend.

SOUTH BAY TEEN IDOL AUDITIONS

Auditions for the second annual South Bay Teen Idol competition are 9 a.m.-noon, Sunday, Jan. 20 at the Addison-Penzak Jewish Community Center, 14855 Oka Rd., in Los Gatos. Doors open at 7:30 a.m. Entry fee to audition is $20. The American-Idol-style singing competition is open to teens in grades eighth through 12th in Santa Clara and Santa Cruz counties. Entrants don’t have to be Jewish. A total of 20 teen vocalists will be selected to compete in the semi-finals in February, and then 10 will be selected to compete at the finals in April.The winner gets a $2,500 prize and money for their school. MUSEUMS OF LOS GATOS ART EXHIBITS

The Museums of Los Gatos, 4 Tait Ave., presents two concurrent exhibitions, Draw Me A Story: A Century of Children’s Book Illustration and Storytelling in Pictures: From Idea to Art, Jan. 17–Feb. 24. Draw Me a Story, organized by the Cartoon Art Museum in San Francisco, presents original works of art in a thematic and nostalgic trip through the history of children’s book illustrators and illustration techniques. Storytelling in Pictures: From Idea to Art is an original exhibit organized by The Museums of Los Gatos that showcases the work of 21st century Bay Area children’s book illustrators. NUMBER ONE BROADWAY CONCERTS

THE CATS RESTAURANT AND TAVERN CONCERTS

The Cats Restaurant and Tavern, 17533 Santa Cruz Highway, presents several concerts this weekend, beginning tonight, Thursday, Jan. 17 at 8:30 p.m. with The Element Band; Friday, Jan. 18 at 9 p.m. with Eddie Toro and the Blues Rockers; Saturday, Jan. 19 at 9 p.m. with Broken Tail Lights Band; and Sunday, Jan. 20 at 6 p.m. with Joe Ferrara.
