Los Gatos Luxury Cars Fundraiser Benefits Library

Popular car dealer teams up with Friends of Los Gatos Library to raise money to furnish new building.

The Friends of Los Gatos Public Library and the Community Gifts Campaign got together at Los Gatos Luxury Cars, 66 E. Main St., Wednesday evening to raise money to furnish the 30,000-square-foot library that's under construction and expected to open early next year.

A total of 165 people from around the community, including Los Gatos Mayor Joe Pirzynski, enjoyed a night of wine, music, dancing, catered food from , a silent auction and chance to win a free Bentley, although the cool and elegant vehicle was a miniature classic model.

The money donated during the event will be added to the $250,000 the Friends hope to raise as part of the $2.1 million goal to pay for the library's furniture, fixtures and equipment. So far, the Friends have raised about 60 percent from private donations, but now the group is asking the public to help.

The Friends will officially launch its public fundraising campaign with an afternoon of family fun and music from 1-3 p.m. Sunday, April 3, at the Civic Center front lawn, 110 E. Main St. The event is free, and children are invited. Former NASA astronaut Edward T. Lu will be the keynote speaker.
