Last Chance: Teen Writers' Worshop, High School Art Exhibit And More

Up and coming deadlines for a chance to serve on town boards and commissions, participate in a writers workshop, high school art exhibit, help for local seniors and the Los Gatos Rotary Club Great Race April 29.

YOUTH

The Town of Los Gatos has openings for student members on the Youth Commission, Community and Senior Services Commission, and Parks Commission. The deadline to submit your application is May 9. To obtain an application, please click here. Details: Town clerk’s office at 408-354-6888.

The Friends of the Los Gatos Library are sponsoring a teen writers workshop 10:45 a.m.-2:45 p.m., Saturday, April 14, at the Los Gatos Recreation Center, 208 E. Main St., led by fiction writer C. Lee McKenzie. Cost is $15, with pre-registration required. Registration forms are available in the teen area of the Los Gatos Library at 100 Villa Ave. Details: 408-399-5700.

The are asking area students: What matters? The 2012 High School Art Exhibition is a venue for young artists to visually communicate their answers. Creative youth will gain real-world experience at presenting artwork in a competitive environment. Art works are juried prior to the exhibition. Accepted works are framed by the artists. Artists participate in installation at the Los Gatos Art Museum. A framing demonstration, panel discussion, Opening and Awards Receptions, and silent auction will honor the winners. The Museums of Los Gatos will award a $5,000 grand prize and a total of $10,000 in awards. Deadline for submissions
is midnight, April 25. The exhibit is open Santa Clara County high school students (public, private or home school) in grades 9-12. Submissions must be sent to highschool@museumsoflosgatos.

Los Gatos Saratoga Recreation is presenting a free health resource fair 1-4 p.m., Thursday, April 12, at the 208 E. Main St. The fair caters to residents older than 55 years of age and will cover several topics covered by participating agencies and vendors who will set up tables and booths to serve participants.
