West Valley Collection and Recycling, the recycling, green waste and garbage hauler for Los Gatos, Monte Sereno, Saratoga, and Campbell is collecting up to two holiday trees per residence through Jan. 13 as part of its regular yard waste gathering.
Both December 25th 2012 and January 1st 2013 fall on Tuesday. During these weeks, if your regular collection day is Tuesday collection will occur on Wednesday. Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday collection will also occur one day later
Residents are asked to:
- Dispose of undecorated natural or flocked holiday trees.
- Remove stands, tinsel and decorations.
- Cut trees into 5-foot or preferably shorter lengths.
- Place the tree at least one foot away from WVC&R carts.
Apartment residents should contact their property manager for collection details.
Another option for recycling Christmas trees, and helping local students at the same time, is to consider participating in the Los Gatos High School Marching Band tree recycle program set for Saturday, Jan. 5. Here's how it works:
Members of the marching band will bring in the new year by marching through the streets of Los Gatos to pick up discarded Christmas trees that will then be recycled.
The Christmas tree pickup has been a fundraiser for the marching band and color guard for 30 years. On Saturday, Jan.5, participating residents should place trees curbside by 8 a.m. with an orange ribbon attached.
Band members are in the process now of distributing the orange ribbons around town.
Tree stands and decorations should be removed from trees. A $10 donation is requested, with checks payable to LGHS Music Boosters. Checks can either be attached to trees or mailed to: LGHS Music Boosters, P.O. Box 1638, Los Gatos, CA 95031-1638.
Music booster Ed Noskowski adds, “Additional donations are always appreciated and all donations are tax deductible.”
For more information, contact Noskowski at 408-394-8408.
