Fundraiser Planned for Hit-and-Run Victim

Organizers ask community to donate items on Sunday for garage sale at the corner of Highway 9 and North Santa Cruz Avenue.

A garage sale is planned for Sunday at the intersection of Highway 9 and North Santa Cruz Avenue to benefit the Shea's Hope donation fund set up to help the family of student Shea Shaw, the victim of a hit and run.

The garage sale will run from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Proceeds will be deposited in the Shea’s Hope Fund at Wells Fargo. That will help Shea and her mother, Cari Shaw, with their living expenses. Cari Shaw is an independent contractor with Jigsaw Salon in Los Gatos, according to sheashope.org.

The Shea Shaw Donation Fund was also set up at to help pay Shea's medical bills.

The 15-year-old Campbell girl, a sophomore at Los Gatos High School, was with her boyfriend on Jan. 8 when she was hit by an oncoming car at the intersection of Camden and Bascom avenues at about 1:10 a.m, according to San Jose police Sgt. Ronnie Lopez. Shea remains hospitalized and is making small progress.

The sale is being organized by Jigsaw Salon owner Kimberly Smith-Battisti, said Dominique Nunez, a receptionist at the salon.

Organizers will set up the sale at the old Coldwell Banker offices and are asking the community to take sellable and cleaned items to Jigsaw Salon or the parking lot on Sunday.

Volunteers are needed for three-hour hour shifts. Anyone interested in participating should contact Smith-Battisti at kim@jigsawsalon.com, or by calling 408-655-1935 or 408- 354-1050.
