Fun Bocce Facts to Get You Excited About the Upcoming Championships

Bob Rauh, a well known bocce player at Campo di Bocce of Los Gatos, appeared before Town Council last week to get our elected officials excited about the upcoming 2011 United States Bocce Championships scheduled for June 25-July 2 at Campo di Bocce of Los Gatos and Campo di Bocce of Livermore.

The event is expected to have an attendance of more than 5,000, according to organizers.

"It's a big deal for us and it's a big deal for the Town of Los Gatos," Rauh said.

On June 27-28, Rauh said the tournament will feature the Open A and Open B Championships at Campo di Bocce of Los Gatos, with teams from all over the country descending upon the town to compete. 

Rauh shared the following fun bocce facts with members of our Town Council:

• Bocce is the third most popular sport in the world, next to golf and soccer.
• There are 25 million bocce players throughout the United States alone and those participants will be watching Campo di Bocce's live stream of the games over the Internet.
• In the bocce world, the championship next month is the epitome of the game.
