A New Pet For The New Year? Local Shelters Say 'Yes!'

Shelters offer $10 adoptions until Dec. 31 to encourage bringing pets 'Home For The Holidays.'

Six local animal shelters are just 69 adoptions away from a goal of sending 1,000 pets "Home For The Holidays".

The special program featuring $10 adoptions was launched Dec. 1, and ends this Saturday, Dec. 31. So far 931 dogs, cats, rabbits and other small pets found new homes this month.

Organizations involved in the program include the Santa Clara County Animal Shelter, Humane Society Silicon Valley, Silicon Valley Animal Control Authority, San Jose Animal Care and Services, Palo Alto Animal Services and Town Cats Rescue.

The $10 adoption price tag offered at these shelters this month is down drastically from the usual adoption rates that range from $90 to $120, according to the Santa Clara County Animal Shelter.

Those who adopt a pet at a participating shelter this month will also receive a range of regular adoption services including a spay/neuter surgery, microchip implant and registration, vaccinations, flea and worm treatment and a 4-pound bag of pet food.
