5 Things You Need to Know Today: Sept. 1

Don't miss today's opening of the Patriot Day exhibit at the Addison-Penzak Jewish Community Center.

1. View an art exhibit of 24 watercolor paintings of the Statue of Liberty by local artist Laurie Barna, participate in a community art project, and use an interactive map to trace your family's journey to the United States beginning Thursday, Sept. 1 through Oct. 25 at the , 14855 Oka Rd. Then on Sunday, Sept. 11, the public is invited to a reception commemorating the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks and honoring the 125th anniversary of the dedication of the Statue of Liberty 1-4 p.m., at the APJCC, 14855 Oka Rd. Refreshments will be served during the artist's reception on Sept. 11. The all-day music concert happens 2-10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, during Labor Day weekend, at  The free event is sponsored by the  and raises funds for the A portion of the proceeds from the food, wine and beer concessions as well as the raffle will go to support the cause. 4. The Los Gatos-Monte Sereno Community Garage Sale takes place Oct. 1 and the deadline to register is Sept. 9. Get the location of your sale listed in the town's Shopper's Guide. The deadline to register online is today. On Sunday, Oct. 2, the Town of Los Gatos and Los Gatos-Saratoga Recreation will hold its annual Second Chance Day Donation Drive at the Adult Recreation Center, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., to encourage sellers to give away unsold items for local shelters and nonprofit organizations. 5. has appointed Tomi Ryba as president and CEO effective Oct. 5. Ryba most recently served as president of United Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota, and senior vice president of Allina Hospitals & Clinics, which oversees United Hospital. In this role, Ryba also maintained executive oversight of River Falls Area Hospital, the Allina Medical Transportation program, 15 retail pharmacies, and served as executive sponsor of their Patient Experience program for more than 23,000 employees. Ned Borgstrom, who was previously serving as interim CEO and CFO, will remain El Camino Hospital's interim CFO until a permanent CFO has been named.
