5 Things You Need to Know Today, Oct. 13

1. Just in time for Halloween! The presents a workshop called "Glue & Go Costumes" 4-5 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 13, in the Town Council Chambers, 110 E. Main St., to help patrons learn learn about some simple costumes they can make using regular household items and a little ingenuity. Parents and children in grades K-plus are welcome. 2. Today is the final day to apply to serve on a Town advisory body to make a positive, lasting difference in your community. Applications are due today, Oct.  13. There are vacancies on the Arts and Culture Commission, Building Board of Appeals, Community and Senior Services Commission, General Plan Committee, Historic Preservation Committee, Library Board, Parks Commission, Personnel Board, Planning Commission and Transportation and Parking Commission. 3. Friends of Los Gatos Library will have their quarterly book sale 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 15, in the lobby of the Town Council Chambers, 110 E. Main St. Details: 408-399-5700.

4. The third annual Just For Kids Fun Run takes place 11 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 16 near the Carousel in Oak Meadow Park, 200 Blossom Hill Rd. Registration will begin at 10:30 a.m. The event raises money for the nonprofit Best Buddies organization, which supports children with disabilities. 5. The deadline for entries in the 55th annual Dec. 3 Children's Christmas/Holidays Parade is 4 p.m., Monday, Oct. 17. The event is a great family celebration that captures the warmth of the holiday season each year with festive entries, musical wonders and plenty of cheer.
