5 Things You Need to Know Today, July 19

Don't miss two important events tomorrow: The senior ice cream social at the Los Gatos Recreation Center and the Los Gatos Chamber of Commerce's annual dinner at La Rinconada.

1. Make your reservations now for the 's annual dinner Wednesday, July 20, where its 2011 Business Person of the Year Darrell Bennett, its 2011 Most Valued Professional Darrell Monda, and its first Ambassador of the Year Jeana Moore will be honored. Guest speakers for the evening are local residents Peggy and Mike Gibbs, founders of Camp BizSmart. The dinner will be at La Rinconada Country Club beginning at 5:30 p.m. Details: 408-354-9300.

2. A fundraiser is being organized on behalf of Los Gatos bicyclist who was critically injured May 25 at the intersection of Wheeler Avenue and Los Gatos Boulevard. Tickets to the 5 p.m., Monday, July 25 event at Campo di Bocce, 565 University Ave., are $75 per person. $30 of each ticket will go the Saghari family to help pay for Bahram's medical expenses. Admission includes bocce ball, buffet dinner and raffle prizes. The public is encouraged to purchase tickets by midnight July 24 to give Campo di Bocce an estimate of how many people will be attending the fundraiser. Details: Tim DuClos, 408-497-9052. 

3. Get your tickets for the nonprofit Los Gatos Music & Arts' gala fundraiser "Moonlight Over Memphis" 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 26 at La Estancia Estate, 18000 Overlook Road, featuring Jazz artist Barbara Morrison. The event will also feature food and fine wine and your tax-deductible tickets benefits Los Gatos Music & Arts, town educational and cultural programs and Jazz on the Plazz.

4. LGS Recreation 55 Plus Program invites the public to its free Senior Ice Cream Social 12:15 p.m., Wednesday, July 20, at the Los Gatos Recreation Center, 208 E. Main St. Come enjoy a sundae or a banana split with all the trimmings with your 55-plus program friends. Details: 408-354-1514.

5. Have you signed up for the second annual Jill’s Ride for Hope 7 a.m.-2 p.m., Aug. 27, beginning at Los Gatos High School? The fundraising event helps the nonprofit CASSY—Counseling and Support Services for Youth— at  which provides students with crisis intervention, ongoing counseling and proactive mental health education at no charge. It has been at LGHS full time since shortly after Jill Naber's death and the deaths of two students from separate causes. The event will feature a 5K bike ride, run or walk, a 30K bike ride and a 100K bike ride for serious athletes. There will also be a barbecue lunch at the school’s Memorial Plaza.
