5 Things You Need to Know Today, Dec. 1

There are lots of exhibits and great programs offered by The Museums of Los Gatos that are worth checking out.

1. Superintendent Diana Abbati invites the public to the 10:30-11:30 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 1, Details: 408-335-2000 or dabbati@lgusd.k12.ca.us.

2. The , 4 Tait Ave., presents Renovated Reputations, a free multi-faceted exhibition of recent paintings by Kenney Mencher, 7-8 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 3. The presentation, which runs through Jan. 5, includes readings of fiction inspired by the artwork, jazz performance and dancing. The "meet-the-artist" reception takes place from 5-6 p.m. and it's for museum members only. Mencher is a painter and a professor of art history and studio art at Ohlone College in Fremont. He is also the gallery director and curator at the Louis–Meager Art Gallery. Details: Emily Welch, 408-395-7386.

3. "Traps, Maps, and Money Belts," is the name of this exhibit which highlights many of the Museums of Los Gatos' collection items and images from the Hooked on Los Gatos collaborative photo project. The show runs 11 a.m.-5 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday through Jan. 29 at the , 75 Church St. Details: 408-395-7375.

4. Los Gatos Museums Gallery Holiday Gala takes place 6-9 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 1 at the organization's art gallery, 24 North Santa Cruz Ave. View the works of more than 50 artists while enjoying refreshments. Event is free. Details: 408-354-4530.

5. Dec. 8 is the deadline to apply to serve on a town advisory body to make a positive, lasting difference in your community. There are vacancies on the Arts and Culture Commission, Parks Commission, the Building Board of Appeals, the Parks Commission and Transportation and Parking Commission. Interviews are tentatively scheduled for Monday, Dec. 19. Details: 408-354-6880.

Bank of America is helping its customers celebrate the holiday season with Museums on Us, giving Bay Area bank cardholders free admission to the San Jose Museum of Art and The Tech Museum of Innovation Dec. 3-4. Photo ID and a valid Bank of America/Merrill Lynch credit or debit card must be presented.
