5 Things You Need to Know Today, Aug. 8

Get ready to spend an awesome weekend in Los Gatos Aug. 13-14.

1. Have you signed up for the 38th annual Dammit Run at 8:30 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 13 at Los Gatos High School? Race-day registration begins at 6:30 a.m. with a race start of 8:30 a.m. The pre-registration entry fee is $20 ($35 with a Coolmax T-shirt), and the fee is $25 on race day ($45 with a T-shirt). T-shirts alone are priced at $15 and will be sold at the track on race day or in advance at Athletic Performance, 55 W. Main Street, Los Gatos. 2. What better way to celebrate summer than to attend a great art and wine festival? Los Gatos Fiesta de Artes, the town's only art and wine festival, returns this coming weekend, 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 13-14, for its 40th year, on the Civic Center grounds, 110 E. Main St. The Los Gatos Kiwanis Club sponsors this free wonderful party. Details: 408-395-8016 or www.lgfiesta.org.

3. The is inviting the public to its grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony 4-6:30 p.m., Friday, Aug. 12, at the organization's new location, 10 Station Way. Los Gatos Mayor Joe Pirzynski will preside over the ceremony. California Cafe, Cin-Cin Wine Bar & Restaurant and Purple Onion Cafe & Catering will offer hors d'oeuvres. Wine tasting will be provided by Poetic Cellars and Cooper-Garrod Estate Vineyards. RSVP by Aug. 10. Details: 408-354-9300.

4.  a specialty toy store that allows you to build, race, learn and celebrate the engineering of classic cars, will feature silhouette artist Karl Johnson, 11 a.m.-3 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 10, 21 W. Main St. Johnson is a third-generation silhouette artist whose work has been featured in Oprah magazine, In Style, Martha Stewart Living, Elle Decor and Domino Magazine. Details: 408-402-3818.

5. The  is sponsoring a daily blood drive 10 a.m.-5 p.m., daily until Aug. 31, 2731 N. First St., San Jose. Donors can beat the heat and get a cool ice cream treat after they're done. The American Red Cross "Pint For a Pint" promotion runs through the end of the month and allows any donor that donates a pint of blood to receive a coupon for a free pint of ice cream at the nearest Baskin Robbins location.
