"The Good Doctor" features many of the talented students from Los Gatos High school in both the cast and crew. "The Good Doctor" will be the second show directed by Tim Nielson who also directed last year’s highly successful spring musical "Urinetown".
Simon, one of the world’s most successful playwrights, created another Tony
award-winning Broadway hit with "The Good Doctor". It is not so much a play, but rather a series
of comical sketches of some of Chekhov's stories, with the common thread of a
character called the Writer tying everything together. The story occurs inside the Writer’s head
with chaotic ideas popping in and out, and the audience never quite knowing
just what to expect next.
To continue with the theme about writing, the production has chosen to collect donations for two nonprofit organizations combating illiteracy. Book donations will be collected for the Los Gatos Public Library, as well as monetary donations for First Book, an organization that provides new books to children in need, addressing one of the most important factors affecting literacy – access to books. An innovative leader in social enterprise, First Book has distributed more than 100 million free and low cost books in thousands of communities.
