The Washington, D.C.-based Police Foundation announced Wednesday that Los Gatos resident Jonathan Knowles has been elected to its board of directors.
A Silicon Valley veteran, Knowles has been providing thought leadership and insight on the intersection of emerging technology and social trends, the impact of discontinuous innovation, and beyond-the-horizon technologies for more than 20 years.
Knowles is director of Strategic Initiatives, Corporate Strategy and Engagement at Autodesk, and previously held senior strategy and marketing positions at Adobe Systems and Apple Computer.
“We look forward to benefiting from Jonathan's insights and experience,” said Jim Bueermann, president of the Police Foundation. “He will add a new dimension to our board as we continue to advance policing through innovation and science.”
Knowles also serves on the board of directors and as president of the Los Gatos-Monte Sereno Police Foundation, a nonprofit community benefit organization that provides funding for public safety tools and educational programs for the Los Gatos-Monte Sereno Police Department.
“I was pleased to introduce Mr. Knowles to President Bueermann. Mr. Knowles is a recognized leader in strategic thinking, technology, and innovation and the implications arising from the convergence of many disciplines. He has the unique ability to blend this understanding with the challenges facing law enforcement now and into the future. It was clear to me that his perspective well complemented the Police Foundation's purpose of connecting research and practice," said
The Police Foundation works closely with police agencies across the country. As America's oldest nonpartisan, nonprofit, national police research organization, the foundation has produced and participated in the development of a substantial amount of seminal research. The foundation has more than 40 years of expertise in conducting research on a wide variety of policing topics. This experience has established the foundation as a leading resource for numerous issues that law enforcement agencies face in their daily operations.
The Police Foundation is guided by a board of directors elected from the academic, business, legal, government, law enforcement, and medical communities. The Police Foundation was founded in 1970 by the Ford Foundation.
