Beattie joined the Los Gatos Kiwanis in August 1966. An irrepressible Cardinals fan, I always assumed that he had attended Stanford.
He worked with optics and cameras in Los Gatos in the 1970s. (You don’t know how little you know about your friends until they suddenly pass.) He re-joined the Kiwanis club in May 1993, and he served ably as the club’s treasurer for most of the subsequent years. In this role, Beattie attended monthly board meetings, wrote scholarship checks to worthy students, and handled the accounting for the annual event each August.

Beattie provided a calm, steady voice and reliably sound advice to his friends, and he had a great sense of humor and a wry wit. He will be sorely missed.
