Competition is stay-at-home dad and man with “visions.”

California State Assemblyman Rich Gordon (D-21) announced Tuesday that he is running for re-election, placing him in competition for the seat with a stay-at home dad from Menlo Park, Chengzhi “George” Yang. The San Mateo County Elections Office Candidate Roster lists four running for the 24th District seat on State Assembly. Reader's Photo: 'Crow-ssant' at McDonald's

Thanks to Los Gatos Patch reader Ira Spector for sending in this interesting photo of a crow resting on a table at the local McDonald's restaurant.

Ira Spector shot this great photo of a crow at the Los Gatos McDonald's restaurant on Los Gatos Boulevard. He wanted to share it with our Los Gatos Patch online family. Ira is the husband of Los Gatos Vice Mayor Barbara Spector. Crows are considered to be pretty smart birds. As evidenced by this photo, this one has an open beak as if making a call. It seems to be taking a break and choosing this spot along the boulevard to grab a morsel of food.

Council Denies Downtown Employee Parking Permit Program

Retail marketplace and cafe with beer and wine service receives permit; to be called Cento Nove.

The Los Gatos Town Council voted unanimously Monday night against implementing a downtown employee parking permit program based on public feedback. This last summer, town staff issued more than 500 parking surveys among its downtown residents, business owners and employees to evaluate downtown parking resources. However, responses were limited, according to a staff report. Property and business owners didn't have strong interest in an employee permit program. Employees who were interested in the concept, nevertheless, objected to paying more than $100 for an annual permit. "Based on anecdotal information, past experience, and the outreach process, there does not appear to be a broad consensus of downtown stakeholders regarding …

Employees can continue to take time from their jobs to go move their cars, it wasn't that they didn't want parking permits, it was the annual fee of over $100.00 they didn't want. The employees who scramble around like the "keystone cops at break time" make minimum wage or a little better. Bureaucracy!   more ›

Margaret Smith Joins Los Gatos Planning Commission

Former owner of Domus garnered four out of five votes Monday night.

The Los Gatos Planning Commission now has a new member in Margaret Smith, who beat out eight other applicants before Monday night's Town Council meeting. She received votes from four of the Town Council's five members, with Los Gatos Councilman Steve Leonardis supporting applicant Robert Rennie. “She's a very well-rounded person who is extremely aware of the way the town should work, the way the town continues to evolve. I think she is a very balanced voice in there. I definitely think Margaret rose to the occasion,” said Los Gatos Mayor Joe Pirzynski. Smith replaces former commissioner Jane Ogle, who resigned effective the end of July due to her recent appointment by Gov. Jerry Brown as deputy director of Health Care Delivery Systems of …
