Is there a way for gay men to enter the contest? We are specifically excluded from giving blood (andRead More unfairly so). I have been married for 5 years, and I'm willing to give blood.

There was a time when i regularly gave blood and would still love to, but since i started gettingRead More tattoos in 2000, i have not been able to donate. have the technologies or regulations changed since i have last looked into it? I know i could make a difference, even by bringing friends with me!

Yayoi ... the Safe Body Art Act will lead to changes in the 12 month deferral period for CaliforniaRead More blood donors with new tattoos or piercings. However, I do not have definitive timetable as to when those changes will go into effect. But I can assure you that once a change is made, it will be promoted extensively.

Thanks Jared! I will look up that initiative and promote it too! i can just imagine how theRead More mainstreaming of body art has affected blood donations.

@ Jared Schultzman -- I am sending you an email with our home telephone number and my husband's cellRead More phone number both of which I would appreciate you arranging to have permanently removed from the Red Cross solicitation lists. If any blood donation advocates feel like contacting the United Blood Services people to discuss how aggressive solicitation of past donors and their families results in their deciding to NEVER EVER DONATE BLOOD, MONEY OR ANYTHING ELSE EVER AGAIN and wanting to warn others of the surprising, unanticipated risks from letting blood donation centers get ahold of their private telephone numbers, the address and telephone number I was given is: United Blood Services National Call Center Attn: Dustin Schodt, In House Director 4920 South Wendler Drive, Suite 102 Tempe, AZ 85282 (877) 827-4376 Unfortunately I did not get the info for whoever was insistently soliciting blood donations on behalf of Red Cross. At the time I initially assumed it was the Red Cross themselves but tonight the United Blood Services people initially identified themselves as Blood Centers of the Pacific so perhaps Red Cross is using a third party call center as well. I anticipate they will be calling again soon so I will post that information when I get it.

they are subject to ca law cuz they are doing business with you in ca!!! it makes me nuts to come upRead More against a brick wall of stupidity like this! i have had similar experieces with call centers hired by causes i donated to. so i know what you're saying. i gotta say tho that i signed up to donate a set amount to the Red Cross several years ago. after a year of donations i called and said i wanted to end it. they took my info and thanked me for my donation.and i never heard from them again. totally amazing!

kayla garelick -- I'm glad to hear your happy outcome. I'm hoping that Mr. Schultzman can make thatRead More happen for our family as well.
