YogaSource of Los Gatos is Expanding

Studio is planning move at the beginning of 2012; expected to become largest independently owned yoga center on the West Coast.

has announced it will move into a new location at 16185 Los Gatos Blvd., at the beginning of the year.

Currently just down the street from the new 10,000-square-feet site, at 15545 Los Gatos Blvd., owners Steve and Linda McGrath said this week the move was necessary to accommodate its growing number of clients.

The studio boasts a daily clientele of between 350 and 400 people who “want to feel great, make friends and find inspiration,” through the practice of yoga, said Steve. “These are elements that we carry and live in the brand of YogaSource.”

The business, however, has about 10,000 clients practicing yoga, making it the biggest yoga studio in Silicon Valley, Steve added.

Opened in Los Gatos in March of 2002 at a downtown location that was 800 square feet, it quickly outgrew that location moving to the current 4,500-square-feet facility in January of 2007.

But soon after its second move, owners once again experienced growing success with their winning combination of smart yoga classes taught in an inviting environment by more than 30 instructors.

In 2010, the couple began to look for places to expand in town securing the future location, just down the road from where it will occupy the entire ground floor, Steve said.

The expansion is said to cost almost $1 million, he added. “It sounds like a lot of money, but a significant amount is being spent to make sure we are energy conscious and eco-friendly,” Steve noted.

He added the new studio would also have a new state of the art heating and air purification system. Such upgrades are necessary to improve the quality and the experience of yoga classes, he stressed.

“When finished we’ll be the largest independently owned yoga studio on the West Coast of the United States,” he continued.

The new studio will offer more than 100 classes a week across 14 different styles of yoga ranging from therapeutic yoga to its slow calisthenics program.

The new center will also offer expanded child-care services.

The business will also be expanding its retail boutique, he said. It’s one of the biggest partners worldwide of premium yoga apparel brand Lululemon.

The business anticipates having an open house in January at the new spot, Steve said.

The studio also has a full yoga teacher training program and is a Yoga Alliance-certified teaching institute, with Linda McGrath hosting the teacher training, Steve explained. About 125 people have graduated from the program and many of them teach at the studio.

The operation also hosts yoga retreats in the winter taking customers to glamorous vacation destinations such as Bali and Cancun to help them get away and practice yoga, he said.
