Los Gatos to Celebrate 125th Anniversay on Fourth of July

'Party in the Parks' event also planned on actual date of town's incorporation, Aug. 10, at five public parks.

Los Gatos will celebrate its 125th anniversary on July 4, the nation's Independence Day observance, town officials have announced.

The town was incorporated on Aug. 10, 1887, however, it plans to observe its jubilee year patriotic style and then hold a concurrent anniversary celebration at five public parks 6-8 p.m., Aug. 10.

During the July 4th festivities, commemorative fans with the town's jubilee logo will be distributed to the public, and the community will have an opportunity to contribute to a “Jubilee Art Experience.”

The "Party in the Parks" event will take place at Bachman, Belgatos, Blossom Hill, La Rinconada, and Live Oak Manor parks, said Los Gatos Assistant Town Manager Pamela Jacobs in a written press release.

The town will provide a stipend, a Jubilee banner, Jubilee fans, Jubilee cloth bags, tables, and porta-potties, if needed, she added.

One Los Gatos Town Council member will be assigned to each park and its representatives will draw assignments at their Aug. 6 Council meeting, she said.

A key role of the attending Council member will be to lead the partygoers in a rousing Happy Birthday song to the town at 7:30 p.m. simultaneously in all the parks, she explained.

The town is seeking party hosts for each park. The role of the hosts will be to coordinate the neighborhood celebration, using the stipend provided by the town and any other resources available to the neighborhood.

Neighborhood associations and families, service organizations, faith groups and other nonprofits are invited to help host the event, she indicated.

Those interested in being hosts should contact Jackie Rose at 408-354-6853.

Two more exciting celebrations are expected this fall as part of the town's jubilee year extravaganza: the dedication of the renovated and the grand opening of the, Jacobs said.

"From start to finish, the town’s jubilee year promises to be as extraordinary as the town’s rich history and many accomplishments over the past 125 years," Jacobs said.
