PHOTOS: Los Gatos Library 'Shines' at Grand Opening Celebration
Hundreds of children, teens, adults, seniors, community advocates, volunteers and political figures participate Saturday in historic unveiling of information repository.
To those who think libraries are going away, better think again.
On Saturday, the hugely successful grand opening of the new Los Gatos Public Library proved that not only are they alive and well, but they continue to be relevant.
Los Gatos Mayor Steve Rice said the town has always cherished its library—from the time in 1898 when the library “reading room” was housed in a dry goods store in a building on stilts next to the Main Street Bridge … to the … to the old library just across the way from the new one that has been a cornerstone of Civic Center Plaza since the 1960s.

And when people ask if public libraries will continue to be needed in the digital age of the 21st century, Mayor Rice said without hesitation, "yes."
"A library is so much more than books. Libraries are constantly evolving and reinventing themselves and that is why they continue to be the most popular public place in every community, including Los Gatos," Rice rightly noted.

From the $2 million-plus investment from the Friends of the Los Gatos Public Library, to the planning and visioning of its elected officials, the new building's completion says that the town recognizes that a library can help educate and inform.
The celebration for the new edifice continues today, Sunday, Feb. 12 with a host of activities aimed at entertaining children, teens and adults alike.
