Letter to the Editor: Los Gatos Community Alliance Studies Town Developments
Nonprofit group estimates future Netflix and North 40 developments will generate about 36,000 new car trips.
Los Gatos Patch would love your 300-word letters to the editor.
There is a group of us who call ourselves the Los Gatos Community Alliance. We are volunteer Los Gatos residents who are concerned about all of the developments, underway, planned or pending, in the past two years and the impact they will have on our town.
Therefore we have spent some time adding up the students that will be added to the school system. Additionally, we have studied the mitigated negative declarations and planning meetings as well as the North 40 Specific Plan to make these estimations.
In not all cases are we convinced the numbers given will turn out to be the real numbers, but the figures below will give you a pretty good idea of the projected impact coming our way.
The two largest projects, Albright Way and the North 40 are not off the ground yet, so the full impact will be felt more when each is complete in two to four years from now. In the case of Albright, we have estimated on 550,000 square foot of office.
In the case of the North 40, the final plans have not been produced, so we got our numbers by assuming that most developers are going to max out the property to the limits listed in the North 40 Specific Plan.
We have our backup data on our website if you wish to see how we came to these numbers. We welcome anyone’s input should you see errors or omissions made, especially from the town or the developers. Our goal is accurate information to make us all more aware of future impacts.
Estimated total number of new car trips (newly generated by the developments)–35,247.
Estimated total number of new students in this district: 337. The schools are already at capacity and 337 is about half the size of an elementary enrollment currently.
More to follow as our research continues. We’re all volunteers, so it gets done when it gets done.

Thanks for doing this, Jak. I am glad someone is putting together the info and doing the math. Will the city council take notice, though?

I have known Jak Van Nada for a number of years, not as a personal friend but through a charity event. This I know, he is a man of extreme integrity and passion for this community. Whatever your political views, you can count on Jak to give you honesty and fairness. He loves Los Gatos. If you want to really understand what the impact of future developments may have on this town, I would listen closely to what Jak has to say. Dont just listen to what comes from the town or the developers, also listen to what Jak Van Nada and his group have to say, they will tell it to us straight.
