5 Things You Need to Know Today: June 22

Don't miss tonight's Jazz on the Plazz kick-off concert featuring popular vocalist/songwriter/pianist Spencer Day.

1. Are you feeling the heat? Cool off this afternoon, Wednesday, June 22, by attending the family Float Night and Barbecue, 5-8 p.m., 14855 Oka Road. The public is welcome to bring flotations devices, except water wings.  DJ Aaron David will lead a dance party on the field. Tickets are $5 for center members and $8 for non-members. 2. Jazz on the Plazz, Los Gatos' third free summer concert series, kicks off this evening, Wednesday, June 22, 6:30-8:30 p.m., through Aug. 24, at Town Plaza, at the intersection of West Main Street and Santa Cruz Avenue near the post office. The opening concert is popular vocalist/songwriter/pianist Spencer Day. Details: Teri Hope, 408-354-1155.

3. Apply today for vacancies the town has on theLos Gatos Planning Commission and the Los Gatos General Plan Committee. The deadline to apply is July 22, 2011. Applications can be submitted online or in person at the Town Clerk Department, 110 E. Main St. Candidates will be interviewed by the Los Gatos Town Council. Details: 408-354-6834.

4. Attend the Los Gatos Planning Commission meeting tonight, 7 p.m., at the Town Council Chambers, 110 E. Main St., Los Gatos. Click here to see the agenda.

5. Share your thoughts about public spaces and architectural styles for the future development of the . Complete an online survey letting town planners know what your preferences are for the land bounded by Los Gatos Boulevard to the east, Highway 85 to the north, Lark Avenue to the south and Highway 17 to the west.
