Rotary Club of Los Gatos Announces All-Time Record Donations
The Rotary Club of Los Gatos is pleased to announce that an all-time record $251,000 was distributed in donations for year-end 2010-11.
Much of the money donated comes from interest in the Rotary club of Los Gatos scholarship fund, charities foundation and undraising efforts.
"The total has inspired our CrabFest and Great Race
committees to work even harder to raise funds this year,” said William Piche’, president of the Rotary Club of Los Gatos. “The donations were distributed to various projects throughout the year, and additional contributions to
programs benefiting the youth of the Los Gatos community,” he added.
Fundraising efforts last year were instrumental in
allowing the club to participate in unique projects on the local, regional and international level.
Donations programs included:
- Partners in a $25,000 library grant together with the Los Gatos Morning Rotary Club to furnish a teen study room.
- Relief for victims of San Pablo PG&E gas line explosion.
- Japan tsunami relief received $48,000 in donations in partnership with five other Rotary clubs.
- Equipping a neo-natal unit in a hospital in Tuguegaroa, Philippines.
In addition to these singular programs, the Rotary Club of Los Gatos has long-standing commitments to giving to local causes, especially during the holiday season.
This year, the club will continue with its Presents
for Families In Need.
The Rotary Club of Los Gatos each year adopts families in need to provide Christmas gifts for them. The club has arranged for Santa Claus to deliver the gifts on Dec. 17, 2011 to three adopted families.
The club has also been active recognizing the work and
sacrifices of our armed services.
Operation Yellow Ribbon provides care packages to our local military serving abroad and gift certificates to families of wounded veterans at the Fisher House located at the Palo Alto Veterans Hospital.
For many years, the club has donated funds to provide for
meals for families in need through the St. Luke’s Kitchen in Los Gatos and the Second Harvest Food Bank.
Local Boy Scout Troop 501 has been supported by the club for decades. That partnership allows the troop to contribute its time and effort in helping in the community.
The Rotary Club of Los Gatos, established in 1924, is dedicated to serving the local and world community. Its many projects attempt to live the Rotary motto of "Service Above Self." Rotary International is a worldwide organization of business and professional leaders that provides humanitarian service, encourages high ethical standards in all vocations, and helps build goodwill and peace in the world.
